Sedation Dentistry in Hamilton Ontario

For any patients who are anxious or scared about their dental checkup, you will be happy to know that Dentistry on Queenston offers dental sedation. Believe it or not, dental fear or phobia is quite common and many patients have at least some nervousness or uneasiness when visiting the dentist. At our practice, we strive to provide our patients with a smooth and comfortable dental experience. Just a few of the sedation dentistry options that we provide include:
General aneasthesia
General anesthesia, or sleep dentistry, is suitable for patients who are highly anxious or who need multiple procedures during the same appointment. General anesthesia puts the patient to sleep which is why it is known as sleep dentistry. Once sedated, all pain and discomfort are eliminated and the dentist can safely perform your procedure.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation puts the patient in a semi-conscious state during their procedure. Approximately an hour before your scheduled procedure, you will have to take an oral sedative, usually in liquid form. When you arrive at the office, you should be in a completely relaxed and comfortable state. Oral conscious sedation is ideal for patients who are nervous or anxious or who have a low threshold for pain. Nitrous oxide may be given to increase the sedative effects.
Nitrous oxide
Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, is extremely effective at reducing pain and discomfort. Nitrous oxide is given via gas mask. Within a few moments, the patient will be in a completely relaxed and comfortable state.
IV conscious sedation
As the name indicates, IV conscious sedation is administered through an IV. The patient will be able to feel the sedative effects quite quickly, which can be used to induce a conscious or unconscious state. IV conscious sedation is recommended for patients who are extremely anxious or who need multiple procedures in a single visit.
During a checkup, our dental team will go over your needs to choose the appropriate sedation method for you. To learn more about our sedation dentistry, contact Dentistry on Queenston in Hamilton to speak with one of our friendly and knowledgeable staff.
